Professional Cleanings & Oral Hygiene

Why are professional cleanings so important?
We Create Beautiful and Brighter Smiles
Professional cleanings are essential for removing plaque and tartar buildup that can lead to tooth decay, gum disease, and other oral health issues. This destructive bacterial film cannot be removed with a toothbrush and home care after it has hardened to become tartar. When not properly removed, it can lead to tooth decay, gum disease, and other oral health issues. These cleanings also help eliminate surface stains, leaving your teeth looking brighter and feeling smoother.
During your visit, we conduct a comprehensive exam to assess the overall condition of your teeth and gums. By identifying issues early, we can provide timely treatment and help you avoid more serious dental problems in the future.
At City Family Dental, your comfort and oral health are our top priorities. Our team is committed to helping you maintain a clean, healthy, and confident smile through personalized, professional dental care.
Our neighbors across the greater Plainfield, Aurora, and Naperville area also love how minty-fresh their mouths feel afterward. It’s just a “feel-good” visit!
It’s never been easier or more comfortable to keep your smile healthy and beautiful with professional cleanings
How often should I get my teeth professionally cleaned?
It depends. The American Dental Association advises that all individuals, regardless of their health condition, should see their dentist for a checkup (which includes an exam and cleaning) at least two times a year, or every six months. However, Dr. Naik and our team recognize that you are a one-of-a-kind person with a unique set of needs and a variety of different personal characteristics. Notably, she identifies any risk factors that you may have for oral conditions, such as gum disease and oral cancer. These risks include:
- Smoking, vaping, and the use of other products that contain nicotine
- Challenges to consistently good nutrition and nutritional deficiencies
- Comorbidities that can affect the health of your teeth, gums, and mouth, for instance, a diagnosis of diabetes, kidney disease, lupus, heart disease, and Sjogren’s syndrome, and other conditions that cause dry mouth
- Inadequate or inconsistent oral care
- Use of certain medications that cause conditions like dry mouth
- Advanced age
- Behaviors such as chronic teeth grinding, poor stress management
- Family history
Based on your needs, Dr. Naik will recommend a schedule of visits to our office in Bolingbrook, IL, that prioritizes your health. We welcome you to call us at (630) 489-6323 to connect, or feel free to drop by whenever you’d like. Our dedicated team is eager to meet you and your family!
What can I expect during my dental cleaning appointment?
Your appointment begins with our dentist, Dr. Sneha Naik, conducting a thorough examination of your teeth, gums, and overall oral health. She carefully evaluates and diagnoses any existing or potential dental issues, with the goal of identifying problems early, before they progress and require more extensive, costly treatment.
Using state-of-the-art dental instruments and techniques, our team gently and effectively removes bacteria, food debris, plaque, hardened tartar, and surface stains to ensure a comfortable and comprehensive cleaning. During your visit, you’ll also receive personalized recommendations on oral care products, along with expert tips on brushing and flossing tailored to your individual needs.
