Extractions

What can I expect from treatment?
We Create Beautiful and Brighter Smiles
All treatments, including extractions, start with a consultation. During this visit, Dr. Shirali Shah evaluates your troublesome tooth. She uses advanced imaging to see better and assess what cannot be detected with the unaided eye. With this information in hand, she can confirm if extraction is needed or may recommend options to attempt to restore or preserve the tooth.
If extraction is recommended, we can discuss ways to ensure your utmost comfort and relaxation at every step. While the specific techniques used to remove your tooth vary, all these procedures are performed quickly and painlessly. With advanced analgesics (pain relievers) and sedation, you will not feel anything but relief as your tooth is lifted from your mouth. We also provide you with instructions on aftercare. How you care for the extraction site afterward can either help or hinder the healing process.
Why can’t my tooth be saved?
Fast and painless extractions: Moving forward from irreparably damaged teeth
In modern dentistry, the removal of teeth is largely considered a “last resort.” However, there are numerous situations where tooth extractions are essential to:
- Treat pain and other distressing symptoms
- Prevent serious health complications
- Restore oral function
Dr. Shirali Shah and our Plainfield, Aurora, and Naperville area team at OraSmiles in Bolingbrook, Illinois, have the expertise and on-site capabilities to gently, efficiently, and safely remove teeth. These teeth are no longer beneficial to your health and function and may now present threats to your overall well-being.

Why should I choose OraSmiles?
In addition to our expertise in dental extractions, Dr. Shirali Shah also offers a range of tooth replacement options. It is essential to replace teeth quickly. When teeth are not replaced promptly, bone loss arises. The loss of bone in the jaw can worsen functional problems and can potentially prematurely change facial structure. Our options to replace teeth include bridges, partials, dentures, and implants. Implant-supported teeth are often an ideal option, as they help to keep the jawbone strong and healthy. There are many factors to consider when exploring options to rebuild your smile.

Are extractions just for badly decayed teeth?
No. A tooth may need to be removed due to certain types of cracks or fractures that significantly weaken its structure and penetrate the innermost pulp tissue. Other reasons that Dr. Shirali Shah may recommend the removal of a tooth include:
- Advanced gum disease, which causes teeth to become loose and wobbly in their sockets
- Teeth that are impacted or become trapped partly or fully in the jawbone (this tends to happen a lot with wisdom teeth, as they are the last teeth to develop in the mouth and often don’t have enough space to grow in correctly)
- Prior to orthodontic treatment, as there may be insufficient space in the mouth for appliances like braces
